Sunrise Airways Launches New Intra-Regional Flights inEastern Caribbean

Starting May 25, 2024, Sunrise Airways will introduce new intra-regional flights connecting Antigua, Dominica, St. Kitts, and St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean. The airline will operate Embraer 120 twin-turboprop aircraft with a maximum seating capacity of 30 passengers. The new service will run six days a week, with multiple daily flights between the destinations.

Why this matters: This expansion of intra-regional flights has the potential to boost tourism and economic growth in theEastern Caribbean region. Improved connectivity between these islands can also facilitate cultural exchange, trade, and cooperation, ultimately strengthening regional ties.

The flight schedule includes two daily flights between Antigua and Dominica, two daily flights between Antigua and St. Kitts, and one daily flight between Antigua and St. Lucia. Philippe Bayard, Chairman and CEO of Sunrise Airways, expressed his enthusiasm for the expansion, stating, "All of us at Sunrise Airways have cherished each new route that we've inaugurated over the 12-year history of our airline. This latest expansion, though, is extra special as it brings the mission we started in the Western Caribbean, to better connect our islands under our One Caribbean concept, to the Eastern Caribbean in the biggest way yet. Fittingly as regards to our name, it's truly the dawn of a new day for intra-regional air travel within the Eastern Caribbean."

Bayard further highlighted the flexibility and unique travel opportunities the new flights will provide, saying,"With two rotations per-day, our new Antigua, Dominica, and St. Kitts flights offer travelers in those markets tremendous flexibility. At the same time, our new Antigua–St. Lucia service stands out as the only direct flight connecting two of the Caribbean's most popular tourist destinations. This creates exciting new options formulti-destination travelcombining the sizzle of Antigua with the Creole savoir-faire of St. Lucia for the first time."

This expansion marks the largest route network addition for Sunrise Airways to date. The airline previously announced its first-ever flights to and from Miami in October 2023 and currently serves 12 gateways across six Caribbean and Central American destinations. Sunrise Airways plans to expand further in the Eastern Caribbean in 2024 and beyond.

Sunrise Airways, a privately-owned Caribbean-based regional carrier, is dedicated to providing safe and reliable passenger service connecting the West Indies. With its corporate headquarters and Service Oversight Center based at Toussaint Louverture International Airport in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the airline is led by noted Haitian businessman, philanthropist, and pilot Philippe Bayard. The introduction of these new intra-regional flights in the Eastern Caribbean is set to enhance connectivity and travel options for passengers, opening up exciting possibilities for exploring the region's diverse destinations.
