Delhi University to Offer 13,500 Seats for Post-Graduation Admissions in 2024-25

The University of Delhi (DU) is set to commence the application process for admission to its postgraduate programmes for the 2024-25 academic year on April 25. The university will offer a total of 13,500 postgraduate seats across 82 courses, including new programmes like MA Hindu Studies, MA Public Health, MA Chinese Studies, MA Korean Studies, and Master in Fine Arts.

The postgraduate admissions will run from April 25 to May 25. Additionally, DU will open registration for three BTech programmes and two five-year integrated programmes. Admission to BTech programmes will be through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), while for the BA LLB programme, it will be through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).

Students seeking admission to the postgraduate programmes will need to have valid CUET PG scores. "The PG admissions will include new courses such as MA Hindu Studies, MA Public Health, MA Chinese Studies, MA Korean Studies, and Master in Fine Arts," DU Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh said.

The university had previously proposed to begin joint degree, dual degree, and joint research programmes, and last year, it accepted applications for UG and PG admissions through the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) based on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). This year, the CUET PG exam was conducted from March 11 to March 28 for about 4,62,603 unique registered candidates, and the CUET UG exam will be held in May.

Why this matters: The expansion of postgraduate programmes and the introduction of new courses at Delhi University reflect the institution's commitment to providing diverse educational opportunities to students. The increased number of seats and the inclusion of interdisciplinary subjects demonstrate DU's efforts to meet the changing needs of the academic landscape and prepare students for a wide range of careers.

The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated former DU students who performed well in the latest UPSC results, with two candidates in the top 5 and a total of five girl students from Miranda House ranking among the top 50. DU has provided financial assistance of around Rs 70 crore to the University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) and the Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF) for the purchase of research equipment, and has strengthened and upgraded the Science Departments to facilitate the operation and repair of existing high-value, sophisticated equipment.
