Pakistan PM Urged to Improve Ties With India

Business Tycoon Urges Pakistan PM to Reconcile with Jailed Rival and Improve India Ties

During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's day-long visit to Karachi, prominent business tycoon made a bold suggestion, urging the PM to reconcile with his jailed political rival, Imran Khan, and improve ties with neighboring India in order to ensure stability in the country. Habib, the head of the Arif Habib Group, proposed that Sharif "shake two more hands - one with India and another with the PTI founder, who is currently imprisoned."

The Prime Minister, while addressing the business community, expressed confidence that Pakistan's exports would double in the next five years with their support. He invited them to work alongside the government to resolve challenges and bring development and prosperity to the nation. Sharif also highlighted positive economic indicators, such as a current account surplus, higher remittances, lower inflation, and record progress in the stock exchange.

In a separate meeting with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Prime Minister Sharif assured him of the federal government's full support in resolving issues raised by the provincial authorities. He emphasized that they would work together "like brothers" for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.

Why this matters: The suggestion by Arif Habib for the Prime Minister to reconcile with his political rival and improve relations with India comes at a critical time for Pakistan. The country has been confronting political instability and economic challenges, and such a move could potentially open doors for greater stability and growth.

During his visit to the city, Prime Minister Sharif also paid his respects at the mausoleum of Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
