AAP Accuses PM Modi of Neglecting Arvind Kejriwal's Health in Jail

Sanjay Singh, a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of showing "hatred and negligence" towards the health of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal while he is in jail. Kejriwal, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam case, is currently lodged in Tihar Jail.

According to AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, a deep conspiracy is underway against Kejriwal, and he alleged that the BJP's modus operandi could stoop to the level of even killing someone. Singh slammed BJP leaders for making fun of Kejriwal's ailment and accused the ED of spreading misleading news about Kejriwal's diet in jail.

Delhi Cabinet minister Atishi also alleged that there was a plot to kill Kejriwal by denying him home-cooked food and insulin in jail, a charge rejected by the prison authorities. Atishi claimed that Kejriwal, who has been diabetic for the past 30 years and takes 54 units of insulin daily, has seen his blood sugar level consistently above 300 mg/dL due to the lack of proper care.

The ED had claimed before a court that Kejriwal is eating high-sugar foods like mangoes, bananas, and sweets every day despite having type 2 diabetes to create grounds for medical bail or shift to a hospital. However, the AAP has refuted these claims, stating that Kejriwal is allowed to have tea and sweets made with the sweetener 'Erythritol' prescribed by his doctors.

Why this matters: The allegations made by the AAP against the BJP and ED regarding Kejriwal's health in jail have raised concerns about the treatment of political prisoners and the potential misuse of power by authorities. The case has garnered significant attention due to Kejriwal's prominent position as the Chief Minister of Delhi and the ongoing political tensions between the AAP and BJP.

In response to the situation, Kejriwal has filed a petition in the Rouse Avenue Court to provide him with insulin in jail. The court is set to hear Kejriwal's petition at 2 pm. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor has also asked the city's top prison official to submit a report into the allegations that Kejriwal was not being provided insulin in Tihar jail.

Atishi warned the ED and BJP that the "conspiracy" they are plotting to take Kejriwal's life will not be forgiven by God or the people of Delhi and the country. She stated, "The ED and BJP are hatching a conspiracy to endanger Kejriwal's life by not giving him access to his prescribed diet and insulin."

Kejriwal has challenged his arrest in the Supreme Court, but the top court has refused an early hearing. As the situation continues to unfold, the AAP remains steadfast in their support of Kejriwal, with Sanjay Singh asserting that the Delhi Chief Minister will not break or bow down in the face of adversity.
