Karnataka Man Claims Assault Over Song Praising PM Modi, Police Investigating

Rohit Kumar, a man from Mellahalli village in Mandya district, Karnataka, alleges that he was beaten up by a group of people in Mysuru for composing a song praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to Rohit, he shared the song on his YouTube channel and with an acquaintance, who then took him to a room where a group of men allegedly abused him, urinated on him, and forced him to chant 'Pakistan Zindabad'.

Rohit claims that when he showed his song to a Muslim youth near a government guest house, the youth took him inside and assaulted him with the help of his friends. The group allegedly abused Rohit for writing the song, committed demeaning acts against him, and asked him to raise pro-Pakistan slogans.

The Nazarbad Police intervened and rescued the severely injured Rohit. However, the Mysuru Police Commissioner stated that they are still verifying Rohit's claims and are investigating the matter further. "We will investigate the matter further if Rohit lodges a formal complaint," the commissioner said. The police also mentioned that the government guest house has CCTV cameras, which they will review as part of the investigation.

Why this matters: The alleged assault on Rohit Kumar for composing a song in support of Prime Minister Modi has sparked concerns about freedom of expression and political intolerance. The incident has drawn attention to the need for a thorough investigation to determine the facts and bring the perpetrators to justice, if the allegations are proven true.

The BJP has blamed 'fanatical Jihadi goons' for the attack and accused the Congress government in Karnataka of allowing it to happen. However, the police are still in the process of verifying Rohit's claims and gathering more information about the incident. They are reviewing CCTV footage from the guest house where the alleged assault took place and will be conducting a medical examination of Rohit. The Mysuru Police Commissioner assured that they will share more details on the incident soon, as the investigation progresses.
