N Chandrababu Naidu's Family Assets Surge 41% to Rs 810 Crore in five years

N Chandrababu Naidu, the chief of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), and his family's assets have increased by over 41% to Rs 810.42 crore in the past five years, according to an affidavit submitted to the Election Commission for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly election. Naidu's wife, N Bhuvaneswari, filed the nomination on his behalf at Kuppam to take on the YSRCP candidate.

Bhuvaneswari owns the majority of the family's assets, including 2.26 crore shares of Heritage Foods Ltd worth Rs 764 crore. The TDP leader individually owns movable assets worth Rs 4.80 lakh and immovable assets worth Rs 36.31 lakh, and the family has total liabilities of over Rs 10 crore. Naidu's name is mentioned in as many as 24 FIRs related to various cases.

The affidavit also reveals that Bhuvaneswari possesses 3.4 kg of gold and 41.5 kg of silver. Naidu owns one Ambassador car valued at Rs 2.25 lakh. The couple's liabilities include Rs 3.48 crore for Naidu and Rs 6.83 crore for Bhuvaneshwari.

Naidu's declared assets make him the richest MLA candidate from Andhra Pradesh so far. The declaration of assets by his political rival, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of the YSR Congress party and the current Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is eagerly awaited, as his family's assets were valued at Rs 510 crore in 2019, slightly lower than Naidu's.

Why this matters:

The Assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh will be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls on May 13. Andhra Pradesh BJP chief D Purandeswari also filed her nomination for the Rajamahendravaram Lok Sabha seat, where she will take on the YSRCP candidate. The nomination process for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly election has begun, and the declaration of assets by the candidates is a significant aspect of the ongoing election season.
