Roads Minister Assesses Infrastructure Projects in Ashanti Region

The Roads Minister of Ghana, Francis Asenso-Boakye, conducted a monitoring tour in the Ashanti Region to assess road infrastructure projects and development. During the visit, the Minister inspected ongoing road construction and rehabilitation works in the region, evaluating the progress of these projects.

In the Kwadaso Municipality, Asenso-Boakye inspected several roads, including Tanoso market to Pokukrom, Tanoso to Takyiman, Tanoso to Topre, Anhwiakwanta to Kessben, Lazab to Nwamase, and the ongoing construction of Kwadaso to Trabuom. The purpose of the inspection was to assess the condition of the roads and identify areas that require further development. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the contractors and emphasized the government's commitment to improving road infrastructure and transportation systems across the country.

Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, the MP for Kwadaso, stated that the completion of these roads would boost economic development and make the constituency one of the most beautiful within Kumasi. He appealed to drivers and constituents to be patient and support the government's efforts.

During the two-day monitoring tour, Asenso-Boakye also handed over two road projects in Amansie West District to contractors for work to begin. These projects include a 24-kilometer Pakyi to Antoakrom road and a 4.6-kilometer Pakyi Number One and Two town roads. The Minister cut the sod for the commencement of the 24.6 km Pakyi-Antoakrom road project, which is expected to bring relief to thousands of people living along the stretch and enhance business activities for socio-economic development.

Residents expressed their gratitude to the government for finally addressing their long-standing issue of poor road network in the area, which has been a major challenge for transporting farm produce and other goods. The Minister assured the residents of uninterrupted construction and urged them to cooperate with the contractors to deliver quality work.

Why this matters: The monitoring tour and assessment of road infrastructure projects in the Ashanti Region demonstrate the government's commitment to improving transportation networks and promoting economic development. The completion of these projects is expected to have a significant impact on the lives of residents, facilitating the movement of goods and enhancing overall connectivity in the region.

Simon Osei Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister, stated that the region has benefited immensely from road projects under the current administration. He mentioned that the Regional Coordinating Council will soon update the public on the number of roads constructed in the last seven years. The Roads Minister's tour also included inspections of ongoing rehabilitation of major roads within the Ejisu municipality and several critical roads within the Kumasi metropolis, with plans to expedite work on these densely populated areas this year.
