Delhi Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Jitender Gogi gang Member for Murder Plot

Delhi Police have arrested Piyush Barela, a 20-year-old member of the notorious Jitender Gogi gang, for allegedly intending to murder a rival gang member in the Manglapuri area. Barela, also known as Sunny, was apprehended with an illegal semi-automatic pistol loaded with three live cartridges.

According to police, they received information that gangsters Rohit, alias Moi, and Monu Dagar, key members of the Gogi gang, were plotting to murder a rival gang member through a recently enlisted member. Investigation revealed that Rohit had recruited Barela, who conducted reconnaissance of the target and was provided with the sophisticated weapon by the gang.

Barela had fallen into bad company and came in contact with dreaded criminals while in jail, who instructed him to carry out the hit. He discontinued his studies after class IX and could not find a job, leading him to get involved in unlawful activities and join the gang.

Why this matters: The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Delhi Police to crack down on criminal gangs and their violent activities in the city. It also underscores the issue of youth being lured into a life of crime due to lack of education and employment opportunities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan Singh stated, "Our team apprehended Piyush Barela on Tuesday and foiled the gang's plan to murder the rival member. We recovered one illegal semi-automatic sophisticated pistol loaded with three live cartridges from his possession." The arrest is part of the Delhi Police's continued offensive against structured crime in the national capital.
