Namma Yatri Launches Cab Services in Bengaluru, Offering Zero-Commission Model Cab Services

Namma Yatri, a Bengaluru-based open-mobility app known for its auto-rickshaw services, has officially expanded into the cab market. The app, which operates on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) network, has onboarded over 25,000 cab services drivers in the city and aims to add another one lakh drivers within the next six months.

The cab services were inaugurated by Karnataka Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who praised Namma Yatri's community-centric approach and efforts in driver welfare. The app offers various cab categories, including Non-AC Mini, AC Mini, Sedan, and XL Cab, catering to diverse customer needs. It is also the first to embrace the latest pricing guidelines set by the Karnataka government, ensuring fair pricing practices and eliminating unjustified surge pricing during peak hours.

Namma Yatri's strategic shift into the cab market aims to enhance driver income, improve vehicle maintenance, and boost customer experiences. The app employs a commission-free approach, charging drivers a subscription fee instead of taking a percentage of revenue from rides. This model allows for an increment in driver income and fosters satisfaction among both drivers and commuters.

Why this matters:Namma Yatri's expansion into the cab market represents a significant development in Bengaluru's transportation scene. The app's zero-commission, direct-to-driver model has the potential to disrupt the existing ride-hailing ecosystem dominated by players like Ola and Uber, offering a more driver-friendly alternative.

Since its soft launch in Bengaluru last week, Namma Yatri has recorded 4-5 thousand cab trips per day. The app already offers cab services in Kolkata and Kochi, and has soft-launched in Chennai and Mumbai. In the coming months, Namma Yatri plans to facilitate inter-city travel, rentals, and scheduled rides across Karnataka, as well as accommodate special requests such as disability-friendly rides, extra luggage space, pet travel, and trips to public transport hubs.

Namma Yatri's CEO, Magizhan Selvan, emphasized the app's transformative approach to addressing mobility challenges. "Namma Yatri is dedicated to empowering drivers through innovative technology at an optimal cost, fostering satisfaction among both drivers and commuters," Selvan said. The app's expansion into the cab market marks a significant step forward in its mission to provide reliable and affordable transportation services that help commuters in Bengaluru.
