KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron Reports Supervisory Board Member Albertina Ho for Alleged Abuse of Authority

Nurul Ghufron, the Deputy Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), has reported Albertina Ho, a member of the KPK Supervisory Board, to the authorities for allegedly requesting financial transaction information of a former KPK prosecutor with the initials 'TI' from the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK). Ghufron suspects that Ho abused her authority in this matter, as the KPK Council is not authorized to access such financial information.

Albertina Ho stated that she was carrying out her duties to investigate ethical violations by the prosecutor 'TI', and that coordinating with the PPATK for the financial analysis was not a problem. She provided an explanation to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas), explaining that the coordination with PPATK was done in her capacity as the person in charge (PIC) of the ethics case at the Dewas KPK.

However, Ghufron claimed the KPK Council was not authorized to request the financial transaction analysis as it is not a law enforcement agency. He reported Ho to the KPK Supervisory Board, suspecting an abuse of authority in the form of a request for the results of the analysis of financial transactions of anti-corruption commission employees.

Why this matters: This case highlights potential conflicts and power struggles within Indonesia's top anti-corruption agency. It raises questions about the boundaries of authority between the KPK leadership and its supervisory board, and could impact ongoing investigations and public trust in the institution.

Syamsuddin Haris, a member of the KPK Supervisory Board, expressed confusion over Ghufron's report against Ho. He stated that Ho's actions were part of an investigation into alleged ethical violations by the prosecutor 'TI'. Syamsuddin hopes that Ghufron's report is not related to an ethical case that Ghufron himself is currently facing regarding the alleged abuse of influence in the mutation of an employee at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, Tumpak Hatorangan Panggabean, the Chairman of the KPK Supervisory Board, affirmed that there was nothing wrong with Albertina Ho's coordination with the PPATK and that it was part of the Council's duties. Former KPK investigator Yudi Purnomo also criticized Ghufron for reporting Ho, accusing him of trying to divert attention from his own examination by the KPK Council regarding the Ministry of Agriculture case. "Ghufron, as a KPK leader, should focus on fighting corruption rather than making controversial moves," said Purnomo.
