19-Year-Old Arrested for Sexually Assaulting 9-Year-Old Girl in Kwara

A 19-year-old man named Jamiu Akande has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara State for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl. The incident was reported to the NSCDC's Gender Unit by Alhaja Mariam Yusuf, the Director at the Ministry of Woman Affairs, after receiving a distress call from the Babareke House in the Ipata Oloje area of Ilorin.

According to the NSCDC's Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Michael, the suspect frequently visited the victim's residence under the guise of seeing his friend. On December 1, 2023, he lured the victim to an uncompleted building and sexually assaulted her. The suspect continued his abuse on April 16, 2024, when he sent the victim to buy bread and then led her to a dilapidated building where he subjected her to additional sexual abuse.

The victim disclosed that the suspect had been sexually assaulting her since December 2023. After painstaking efforts by NSCDC officers, the suspect was apprehended on April 16, 2024. Akande has confessed to the crime and will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution.
