Rivers State Governor Declares Transparent Management of N27 Billion Monthly Revenue

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced that his administration is transparently managing the state's internally generated revenue (IGR), which has doubled from the previous administration's figures to reach N27 billion monthly. Fubara stated that the increased revenue will be used to fund projects in education, healthcare, and agriculture, without the need for borrowing.

According to Fubara, the state's IGR has surged from approximately N11 billion under the previous administration to between N26 and N27 billion in about one year of his tenure. "The interest and well-being of the people will continue to be the focus of his administration, and the government will invest massively in key sectors such as education, health, agriculture, and human empowerment," Fubara said while addressing the House of Representatives Committee on Public Account, who visited him at the Government House in Port Harcourt.

The governor attributed the remarkable increase in revenue to a transparent accounting system and prudent management of resources. He emphasized his commitment to operating a transparent government and providing accounts for public funds. "My administration operates a transparent accounting system and judiciously deploys the IGR to fund projects in education, healthcare, and agriculture, without the need for borrowing," Fubara stated.

Why this matters: The transparent management and effective utilization of state resources is crucial for driving development and improving the lives of citizens. Governor Fubara's focus on key sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture demonstrates a commitment to addressing societal issues and promoting the well-being of the people of Rivers State.

Fubara also highlighted his administration's achievements, including the promotion of over 52,000 civil servants who had been denied promotion for 11 years. The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts commended Fubara's understanding of governance and the state's peaceful environment. Hon Bamidele Salam, the Chairman of the committee, praised Fubara's focused efforts in delivering good governance despite political challenges, and suggested that Rivers State could serve as a model for other states.

Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to maintaining peace in the state to ensure the fulfillment of the promises made during the election campaigns. He also assured the people of Koniju Town that the process to officially gazette the first-class recognition given by the government to the Oputibeya Traditional Stool, which has been delayed, will be concluded.
