On April 22, 2024, the Bauchi State Police Command, in collaboration with local hunters, conducted an intelligence-led operation near the border between Bauchi and Plateau States. The operation was prompted by reports of suspicious activities in the area.

During the operation, police detectives engaged in a firefight with suspected bandits, resulting in the neutralization of eight of them. Two of the suspects were captured before their death and confessed to multiple kidnappings in Bauchi and Plateau States, as well as the killing of a village head in Toro LGA on March 17, 2024.

Acting on the information provided by the dying suspects, the detectives rescued three victims from Dokayel village who had been held captive since April 20, 2024. In a subsequent exchange of gunfire, four more kidnappers were neutralized, and the three captives were safely freed without any ransom being paid.
