IGT Trinidad and Tobago Donates Smart Devices to Immortelle Centre for Special Needs

IGT Trinidad and Tobago (IGT) has donated smart devices to the Immortelle Centre for Special Needs in St Ann's, Trinidad and Tobago, during Autism Awareness Month in April 2024. The donation seeks to improve learning for students with autism spectrum disorders and other neurological developmental conditions.

IGT has been partnering with the Immortelle Centre since 2015, providing various technology donations such as smart TVs, tablets, desktops, and learning apps. The smart devices have assisted students at the center in building confidence, becoming more independent, and using the software and apps independently.

"The smart devices have assisted students in building confidence, becoming more independent, and using the software and apps independently," said Charlene Gittens, principal of the Immortelle Centre.

The donation was facilitated through IGT's After School Advantage (ASA) program, which focuses on applying technological expertise to assist NGO partners in addressing the learning needs of children with autism spectrum disorders. IGT has also provided technology donations to other organizations supporting children with autism spectrum disorders and developmental conditions, such as the Autistic Society of TT - D'Abadie, The Life Skills Centre - Point Fortin, Memisa Centre, LIFE Centre, National Centre for Persons with Disabilities, and the Caribbean Kids and Families Therapy Organisation (CKFTO).

Why this matters: The donation of smart devices by IGT Trinidad and Tobago to the Immortelle Centre for Special Needs highlights the importance of technology in supporting the learning and development of children with autism spectrum disorders and other neurological conditions. It emphasizes the role of corporate social responsibility in addressing the needs of vulnerable populations and promoting inclusive education.

Shavindra Tewarie-Singh, IGT's people and transformation regional senior manager, stated that the company engages with its NGO partners annually to assess and support their technology needs, with a particular focus on organizations that support children with autism spectrum disorders during Autism Awareness Month.
