NIA Raids 9 Locations in Srinagar to Dismantle Pakistan-Backed Terror Plot

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at nine locations in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Saturday as part of an operation to dismantle a terror conspiracy hatched by Pakistan-backed outfits. The raids targeted Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, Al-Qaeda, and newly formed organizations like The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, and People's Anti-Fascist Front (PAAF).

The NIA is investigating the involvement of these groups in collecting and distributing sticky bombs, magnetic bombs, IEDs, funds, narcotics, and weapons to spread terror and violence in Jammu and Kashmir. The probe, registered as RC 5/22, has revealed that Pakistan-based operatives were using social media platforms to promote terror and drones to deliver arms, explosives, and narcotics to their operatives in the Kashmir Valley.

The raids, carried out in collaboration with local police and CRPF, targeted at least nine locations in the Srinagar district. As of the time of the report, no arrests have been made, but further details on the operation are expected to emerge soon.

Why this matters: The NIA operation highlights the ongoing efforts by Indian security agencies to counter Pakistan-backed terror activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The involvement of newly formed terror outfits indicates the evolving nature of the security challenges in the region.

A senior NIA official stated, "The raids are part of our ongoing investigation into the terror conspiracy case. We are determined to dismantle the terror networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir and bring the perpetrators to justice." The official added that the agency will continue to work closely with local authorities to maintain peace and stability in the region.
