Hayley Erbert, a 29-year-old professional dancer, made a triumphant return to the stage on Sunday night, just four months after undergoing emergency brain surgery . Erbert performed alongside her husband, Derek Hough, on the opening night of his Symphony of Dance tour in Melbourne, Florida, receiving a standing ovation from the audience.

In December 2022, Erbert was rushed to the hospital after becoming disoriented following a tour performance in Washington D.C. She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel, which required an emergency craniectomy and later a cranioplasty surgery to replace a large portion of her skull.

Despite the health scare, Erbert has been determined to recover and return to dancing. Hough praised his wife's "grace and strength" throughout the challenging experience. "Hayley's healing process has been nothing short of extraordinary," Hough said. "Being able to dance again is igniting her soul and speeding up her recovery."

The Symphony of Dance tour resumed in April 2024 after being put on pause in December due to Erbert's health. Several dancers rearranged their schedules to be a part of the rescheduled dates. Erbert expressed her renewed vigor to get back on stage, stating that dancing holds an even more significant meaning after her recent ordeal.

"I had extensive conversations and tests with doctors to ensure my safety and condition before joining the tour," Erbert said. "Dancing has been a significant part of my life, and I am grateful to return to the stage after my health scare."

Fellow dancer Lindsay Arnold praised Erbert as the "strongest, most inspiring person" for her resilience and determination to overcome the challenges she faced. Hough also expressed his awe at Erbert's presence and stubborn determination in her recovery process.
