HBO's 'The Gilded Age' Eyes Albany County for Season 3 Filming

The HBO series "The Gilded Age" is considering a return to the Capital Region of New York to film its highly anticipated third season. Location scouts are currently searching for suitable buildings, event spaces, theaters, and other venues in Albany County that can capture the essence of 1880s New York City.

Set in 1882, "The Gilded Age" stars an ensemble cast including Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, and Carrie Coon. The series explores the social war between old money and new wealth, tradition and innovation, during a period of rapid economic change in America. Albany County Film Commissioner Deb Goedeke expressed excitement about the prospect of welcoming the production back to the region, stating,"We are very excited that parts of the Capital Region are being considered again for 'Gilded Age' season 3. Our entire community is ready to welcome the 'Gilded Age' team back to the Capital Region."

This would not be the first time "The Gilded Age" has filmed in the Capital Region. The series previously shot scenes in Troy for its first season in May 2021 and returned to film in Albany, Troy, and Cohoes for its second season in the summer of 2022. The authentic period architecture and well-preserved historic districts in these cities provide an ideal backdrop for the show's late 19th-century setting.

Neighboring Schenectady County has also expressed interest in hosting the production. Donna Pennell, Schenectady County Film Commissioner, stated, "Of course, we would be delighted to welcome them to Schenectady." The region's film-friendly attitude and diverse locations make it an attractive destination for period pieces like "The Gilded Age."

Once the locations are finalized and approved, the production will set a shooting schedule based on the availability of the cast. The series is expected to utilize local crew members, background actors, hotels, and other services, providing a significant economic boost to the region. HBO has not yet commented on the specific filming locations for the upcoming season.

"The Gilded Age" was renewed for a third season in December 2023, following the success of its first two seasons. The show's return to the Capital Region would mark another chapter in the area's growing reputation as a hub for film and television production. As location scouting continues, anticipation builds for the announcement of official filming dates and locations for the third installment of this critically acclaimed series.
