Oscar nominee Hugh Jackman and Emmy winner Jodie Comer are set to star in "The Death of Robin Hood," a darker reimagining of the classic Robin Hood tale directed by Michael Sarnoski. The film, which Sarnoski also wrote, is scheduled to begin production in February 2025.

The movie follows Robin Hood, played by Jackman, as a battle-worn loner grappling with his past after a life of crime and murder. The story takes a grim turn when he finds himself gravely injured and in the hands of a mysterious woman, portrayed by Comer, who offers him a chance at salvation.

Sarnoski expressedhis excitement about the project, stating,"It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood. Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way."

The film will be produced by Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett through Ryder Picture Company, alongside Alexander Black of Lyrical Media, which is fully financing the project. Ryder and Swettteased,"This is not the story of Robin Hood we've all come to know. Instead, Michael has crafted something far more grounded and visceral."

Black added, "We are thrilled to be part of this very special project and to be working with a visionary director in Michael, a phenomenal cast in Hugh and Jodie, and producing with our frequent collaborators, Ryder and Swett at RPC."

The Robin Hood legend has been adapted numerous times on screen, with notable portrayals by actors such as Errol Flynn, Sean Connery, Kevin Costner, and Russell Crowe. However, The Death of Robin Hood promises a fresh, grittier take on the iconic outlaw's tale.

Jackman, known for his roles in "Les Misérables" and the "X-Men" franchise, will next be seen reprising his role as Wolverine in "Deadpool & Wolverine" this July. Comer, who rose to fame with her Emmy-winning performance in "Killing Eve," recently made her Broadway and West End debut in "Prima Facie" and will appear in "The Bikeriders" later this year.

"The Death of Robin Hood"is set to be presented for sale at the Cannes Film Festival this month through WME Independent. With its dark reimagining of a beloved tale and the star power of Jackman and Comer, the film is poised to be a major player in the market and a highly anticipated project in the coming years.
