Hollywood action star Jason Statham is set to lead the upcoming thriller "Mutiny" for Lionsgate. The film, which begins production in the UK this September, marks another high-octane role for the prolific actor known for his intense physicality and charisma on screen.

In "Mutiny", Statham plays Cole Reed, a man who finds himself embroiled in a dangerous international conspiracy after witnessing the murder of his billionaire industrialist boss. Framed for the crime, Reed must go on the run to clear his name and expose the truth behind the killing. "Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane," said Lauren Bixby, SVP of Co-Productions and Acquisitions for Lionsgate.

Directing the film is Jean-François Richet, known for his work on the 2023 hit "Plane" starring Gerard Butler. The screenplay for "Mutiny" comes from Lindsay Michel and J.P. Davis. Statham is also producing the project through his newly-founded Punch Palace Productions banner, alongside Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures.

Statham has been a dominant force in the action genre for over two decades. He rose to prominence with roles in Guy Ritchie's crime comedies "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels" and "Snatch" before transitioning to leading man status in "The Transporter" franchise. The British actor has since become a fixture in high-profile action series like "The Expendables", "Fast & Furious", and "The Meg".

The past year has been especially busy for the 56-year-old star. In 2023, Statham appeared in "Fast X", "Meg 2: The Trench", "Expend4bles", and the spy caper "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre". His latest film, the action-thriller "The Beekeeper" directed by David Ayer, has already grossed over $150 million worldwide since its release in May 2024.

With "Mutiny", Statham continues his reign as one of Hollywood's most bankable action leads. The film promises the type of gritty, adrenaline-fueled adventure that has become the actor's signature. No release date has been set yet, but expect "Mutiny" to make waves when it hits theaters, likely in 2025.
