Leaked Witcher Image Sparks Criticism ofNew Geralt Look

A leaked image from the set of Netflix's The Witcher Season 4 has ignited a firestorm of criticism among fans, with many expressing their disapproval of the new look for Geralt of Rivia, now played by Liam Hemsworth. The photo, which shows Hemsworth's stunt double Joel Adrian in costume, has been met with a barrage of negative reactions online.

Fans have not held back in voicing their discontent, with some labeling the new Geralt the "Wish version" or "porn version" of the beloved character. One Twitter user commented, "They dropped the ball hard with this look. It doesn't look medieval at all. It looks like he's about to fight Vampires at a club."

The casting change comes after Henry Cavill, who portrayed Geralt in the first three seasons, announced his departure from the series in October 2022. Cavill, a huge fan of the original Witcher book series by Andrzej Sapkowski, was widely regarded as the perfect embodiment of the monster-hunting protagonist. His final episode is set to air in July 2023.

Liam Hemsworth, known for his roles in The Hunger Games franchise and Independence Day: Resurgence, will make his debut as Geralt in Season 4. Upon his casting, Hemsworth expressed his excitement, stating,"As a Witcher fan, I'm over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia... I may have some big boots to fill, but I'm truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world."

Despite the backlash, Freya Allan, who plays Ciri in the series, has come to Hemsworth's defense. In an interview with Collider, she shared her concerns about the intense fan reaction, saying, "I feel sorry for him, honestly, because, number one, that fan base can be very attack-y, and it's not an ideal situation to be in taking up someone else's role." Allan believes Hemsworth is genuinely trying to bring heart to the character and has been dedicating himself to training for the part.

Netflix is currently filming Seasons 4 and 5 of The Witcher back-to-back, with plans to conclude the series after the fifth season. Season 4 will introduce a new fan-favorite character, Regis, played by Laurence Fishburne. The show's official synopsis reveals that Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri will find themselves separated and must navigate the war-ravaged Continent to reunite.

As production on The Witcher Season 4 continues, fans eagerly await the full costume reveal of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt. While the leaked image has sparked intense debate and criticism, it remains to be seen how Hemsworth will ultimately embody the iconic role and whether he can win over skeptical fans. The Witcher Season 3 is set to premiere in June 2023, giving viewers one last adventure with Henry Cavill's Geralt before the torch is passed to a new actor.
