In a 2023 appearance on Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, Chakraborty revealed that top actresses refused to work with him in the 1970s and 1980s, dismissing him as a "chota star" or small-time actor.

Despite making his debut in the film "Mrigaya" alongside actress Mamta Shankar, Chakraborty struggled to find leading ladies willing to share the screen with him. "There was a time when I thought I wouldn't transition from B-grade films to A-grade films," he admitted.

However, a turning point came when legendary actress Zeenat Aman agreed to star opposite Chakraborty in the film "Taqdeer," directed by Brij Sadanah. Aman's decision to work with him broke the jinx and paved the way for his rise to stardom. "Zeenat ji said, 'What a good-looking man he is! I will do the film with him'. It was Zeenat ji who broke the jinx," Chakraborty gratefully acknowledged.

Aman's status as the top actress of that era had a ripple effect, with other actresses following her lead and agreeing to work with Chakraborty. "With Taqdeer's release, I became an A-category actor. I will forever be grateful to Zeenat ji for helping me attain that,"he expressed, offering his heartfelt "pranaam" to the actress.
