Pharrell Williams Biopic Filming Underway in Virginia

A new musical biopic film inspired by the life of singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams is currently in production in Central Virginia. The untitled project, set in the summer of 1977, tells a coming-of-age story based on Williams' childhood growing up in the Atlantis Apartments in Virginia Beach.

The film boasts an ensemble cast including Kelvin Harrison Jr., Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Halle Bailey, Brian Tyree Henry, Missy Elliott, and Janelle Monáe. Recent additions to the cast are young, white, Jamilah Rosemond, and Jayson Lee. Acclaimed director Michel Gondry is at the helm of the project.

Williams himself is producing the film alongside Mimi Valdés for i am OTHER, with Gil Netter also producing for Gil Netter Productions. Universal Pictures is overseeing the project, with Senior Vice President of Production Development Ryan Jones and Director of Production Development Christine Sun involved.

As filming takes place in Central Virginia, the production team is seeking extras and vintage cars from the 1960s and 1970s for a day of shooting on May 29, 2024. Casting director Chad Darnell is specifically looking for extras with a "fun, cool, natural hair, period look" to capture the essence of the 1970s era.
