Dover Street Market Unveils Avant-Garde Paris Flagship Store

On May 24, the highly anticipated Dover Street Market Paris (DSMP) flagship store will open its doors at 35-37 rue des Francs-Bourgeois in the trendy Marais district. Spanning 11,840 square feet across the ground floor, first floor, and one of three basements in the historic Hôtel de Coulanges building, DSMP promises a unique retail experience designed by Rei Kawakubo, founder of Comme des Garçons.

Kawakubo's avant-garde concept for DSMP breaks away from traditional retail norms. "Next DSM is 'New Chaos. The space asserts itself. The space is the statement," Kawakubo explains. No clothes will be visible from the outside, and there will be no dedicated brand spaces or concessions. Instead, the store aims to create a "voyage of discovery" for consumers, with the space itself serving as the main attraction. "Each space makes a statement. It's like a recital contest within each space. Each booth exists as a general space, but each of them makes their claim, asserts their difference," Kawakubo adds.

DSMP will house an impressive lineup of 50 labels, including high-end designer brands such as Comme des Garçons, Junya Watanabe, JW Anderson, Rick Owens, Prada, and Miu Miu. The store will also feature several exclusive 'in France' brands, including All-In, Hodakova, and Marina Yee. Customers can expect to discover unique pieces and collaborations not found elsewhere.

Beyond retail, DSMP aims to be a cultural hub. The two remaining basements and the courtyard will serve as spaces for art, literary, music, and community events. DSM plans to invite artists to "invade the store itself with exhibitions and points of view," echoing the spirit of the now-defunct Association 3537 that previously occupied the building.

To celebrate the May 24 opening, DSMP will feature an installation and exhibition entitled 'Comme des Garcons for and by Paolo Roversi,' as well as an installation created by Matty Bovan. These inaugural events set the tone for the store's commitment to merging fashion, art, and culture.

Dover Street Market, founded by Rei Kawakubo and her husband Adrian Joffe in London in 2004, has established itself as a global fashion destination with concept stores in Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, Singapore, and China. The opening of DSMP marks a significant milestone for the brand as it brings its innovative retail approach to the heart of Paris. With its unique design, curated brand selection, and dedication to fostering creativity, DSMP is poised to become a must-visit destination for fashion enthusiasts and art lovers alike.
