Apni Party Chief Altaf Bukhari Alleges Corruption by NC, PDP in J&K

Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, President of the Apni Party, addressed a public meeting in Srinagar's Rawalpora area on May 10, 2024, where he leveled serious allegations of corruption and failure against the National Conference (NC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Bukhari accused these regional parties of deceiving the people of Jammu and Kashmir and prioritizing their own self-interests over the welfare of the public.

Why this matters: The allegations of corruption and failure by the Apni Party chief have significant implications for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, as they may influence voter decisions and shape thepolitical landscape of the region. Moreover, the accusations highlight the need for accountability and transparency in governance, which is essential for the development and prosperity of the region.

In his scathing criticism, Bukhari stated,"These political parties have time and again deceived the people of Jammu and Kashmir and remain busy in corrupt practices for their mere petty self-interests. "He specifically called out senior NC leaders, including Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Justice Hasnain Masoodi, and Akbar Lone, as well as PDP MPs, for failing to take action whenArticle 370was revoked in August 2019.

The Apni Party, which is contesting its first election, has positioned itself as an alternative to the established regional parties. Bukhari urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to support his party, emphasizing,"Since 1947 they have been failing us and it is time that people understand it and vote in favour of J&K Apni Party. "He pledged to prioritize key issues such as the release of political prisoners, passport verifications, early restoration of statehood, and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Bukhari also highlighted his party's commitment to upholding the dignity and honor of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir. He claimed credit for engaging with the central government after the events of August 2019, which he said ensured protection of jobs and land rights for the people of the region.

The public meeting in Rawalpora also witnessed a mass joining program, with people from various walks of life formally joining the Apni Party in the presence of Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari and the local party leadership. As Jammu and Kashmir gears up for assembly elections, Bukhari's allegations against the NC and PDP have intensified the political debate in the region, with the Apni Party seeking to present itself as a credible alternative promising change and development.
