Deputy Speaker Kalu Urges Abia APC to Ramp Up Mobilization for 2027 Elections

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has called on the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intensify their grassroots mobilization efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kalu made this appeal when he received members of the Ukwa Local Government chapter of APC and new party members led by Chief Dimgba Eruba, the State's representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in Umuahia recently.

Why this matters: The success of the APC's mobilization efforts in Abia State could have significant implications for the party's chances of winning the 2027 general elections, particularly in the South-East region. A strong showing in the region could also influence the national political landscape and the balance of power in the country.

The Deputy Speaker stressed the need for the party to consolidate power to ensure President Bola Tinubu's victory in the 2027 general elections and secure APC's win in the next gubernatorial election in the state. He commended the stakeholders for their efforts in expanding the party's membership base in Ukwa local government area andurged them to continuetheir good work.

"You have done well. Ukwa is collapsing. The testimony is clear. Continue the good work," Kalu said. "I met with the Governor the other day and I urged him to return to APC. We need to deliver here for Mr. President; we have to keep mobilizing until the sitting Governor will see that it's APC everywhere you go."

Kalu also encouraged the group to bring more people into the party, promising to hold an event where national party leaders would receive new members and ensure their stake in the party. "Keep up the good work, bring more people, let's expand the party. We will hold an event where all the big people that have structure in the party will receive you from Bende, Ohafia, Item, Umuahia, Ukwa, and so on," he said.

The Deputy Speaker praised President Tinubu's leadership style and friendly disposition towards the South-East region, noting that the President supported his emergence as Deputy Speaker in the spirit of equity and fairness. He tasked Chief Eruba to use his position in the NDDC to continue building the party for President Tinubu's victory in the 2027 general elections.

Kalu expressed delight over the influx of new members into the APC in the South East and urged the stakeholders to maintain the momentum. As the 2027 general elections draw closer, theAPC in Abia Stateis ramping up efforts to strengthen its grassroots support and secure victory for President Tinubu and the party's gubernatorial candidate in the state.
