Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reached Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on Friday night for a one-day working visit. Anwar's plane landed at Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 11:40 pm, where he was greeted by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, State Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment Datuk Christina Liew, and Sabah State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Kadzim M Yahya.

The purpose of Anwar's visit is to attend the National-level MADANI Aidilfitri 2024 Celebration at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Saturday. The celebration, themed 'Perpaduan Melalui Perayaan' (Unity Through Celebration), is organized in collaboration between the Sabah government and the Ministry of National Unity. It will be officiated by Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will also be in attendance at the event, which aims to bring Malaysians together in the spirit of unity and harmony. The celebration marks the beginning of the Kembara Perpaduan Tour programme in conjunction with the 2024 Unity Week Celebration.

Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim and State Assistant Minister of Finance I Datuk Julita Majungki expressed hope that the celebration will help bolster unity and understanding among the people of Sabah. Sabah is one of seven states selected to host the national-level MADANI Aidilfitri 2024 Celebration, with the others being Melaka, Kelantan, Kedah, Penang, and Terengganu.
