Aidan O'Brien Eyes Betfred Oaks with Ylang Ylang and Rubies Are Red

Trainer Aidan O'Brien has confirmed that his horses Ylang Ylang and Rubies Are Red are potential contenders for the Betfred Oaks at Epsom next month. Both horses have shown promising performances, making them strong candidates for the Classic race.

Ylang Ylang, a Frankel filly, has been impressive in her juvenile season, with only one below-par race. She ended her campaign with a victory in the Fillies' Mile at Newmarket and recently finished a staying-on fifth in the 1000 Guineas at the Rowley Mile. O'Brien believes she is more suited to the Oaks distance than the Guineas mile. "We were very happy with her in the Guineas. We thought going to the Guineas that she was an Oaks filly given the way she had been working and that is how she ran. Ryan was very happy with her. He let her find her feet and he felt she came home very well," said O'Brien.

Rubies Are Red, a Galileo daughter and sister to 2016 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Found, is still a maiden after three starts. Despite her inexperience, she showed promise in the Lingfield Oaks Trial, finishing second with a late surge from the back of the field. O'Brien describes her as "definitely an Oaks-type filly" with a running style similar to her accomplished sister. "Her running style is like Found's in that she takes her time and comes late," he noted.

O'Brien, who has won the Epsom Oaks a record nine times, looks to add to his impressive tally in the fillies' Classic this year. With Ylang Ylang's proven form and Rubies Are Red's potential, the Ballydoyle trainer appears to have two strong hands as he targets a tenth Oaks victory.
