The Serie A match between Atalanta and Fiorentina, originally scheduled for March 17, has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 2, at 6:00 pm. The fixture was postponed following the illness and subsequent passing of Fiorentina's general manager, Giuseppe Barone.

Barone fell critically ill on the day of the original match, March 17, and was rushed to Milan in serious condition. He was admitted to the San Raffaele clinic, where he underwent heart surgery. Tragically, Barone later passed away due to complications from his illness.

The rescheduled match on June 2 was announced by official Serie A sources. It will bring closure to the 29th round of the Italian championship, which was disrupted by the unfortunate event.

Both Atalanta and Fiorentina have reached the finals of European competitions this season, adding to the necessity of rescheduling the Serie A fixture. Atalanta will play in the Europa League Final on May 22 against Bayer Leverkusen. Meanwhile, Fiorentina will compete in the Conference League Final on May 29 versus Olympiacos.

Fiorentina secured their spot in the Conference League Final by defeating Club Brugge 4-3 on aggregate in the semi-finals. After the second leg ended in a 1-1 draw, Fiorentina director Daniele Prade dedicated the team's achievement to their late CEO Joe Barone, father of Giuseppe Barone.

Prior to the rescheduled match, played against Fiorentina, Atalanta has a packed schedule. They face Roma in Serie A on May 12, followed by the Italian Cup Final against Juventus on May 15. Atalanta then travels to Lecce for a Serie A match on May 19 before the Europa League Final on May 22. They conclude their Serie A campaign at home against Turin on May 26.

Fiorentina also has a busy run of fixtures. They host Monza in Serie A on May 13 and welcome Napoli on May 19. The Viola then visit Cagliari on May 26 before the Conference League Final against Olympiacos on May 29.

Atalanta's qualification for the Europa League final eliminated the possibility of rescheduling the match against Fiorentina before the end of the Serie A season. As a result, the Lega Serie A confirmed June 2 as the new date for the fixture.
