Coventry City, a Championship side, has announced plans to introduce safe standing areas at the Coventry Building Society Arena for the 2024-25 season. The decision follows a successful trial period and overwhelming fan support, with over 80% of survey respondents in favor of introducing safe standing.

The new plans will see 2,732 seats converted into safe standing areas, with each fan having their own ticketed standing space. The standing areas will be separated by barriers, ensuring individual rows are distinct. Work to install the new areas will start during the summer and will be completed ahead of the 2024-25 season, which begins on the weekend of 10-11 August.

Paul Michael, the stadium's managing director, commented on the decision, saying: "The successful trial run in partnership with the club has proved that standing can be managed safely in designated areas and bring a positive boost to the matchday experience for fans who would prefer to stand." Michael added that the new safe standing areas will contribute to maintaining the incredible atmosphere generated by Sky Blues fans.

Coventry City is not the first club to introduce safe standing areas. League One sides Shrewsbury Town and Wycombe Wanderers have already implemented safe standing, while Chelsea's Stamford Bridge was the first Premier League stadium to introduce the feature in 2022. The introduction of safe standing at Coventry Building Society Arena is expected to enhance the matchday experience for the club's passionate fan base.
