Irish Life Sponsors PGA Pro-Am at Druids Glen to Benefit Down Syndrome Centre

The Irish PGA Pro-Am tournament returns to the five-star Druids Glen Golf Club in Wicklow, Ireland, on Wednesday, May 29, for the second consecutive year. Irish Life will once again sponsor the event, demonstrating their commitment to supporting The Down Syndrome Centre, a charity that benefits from the tournament's fundraising efforts.

Last year's event raised an impressive €26,400 for the Down Syndrome Centre. Irish Life has supported the charity for seven years, with the tournament raising over €100,000 in total. The continued support is vital for the Down Syndrome Centre, which assists over 350 families on a weekly basis.

The tournament will take place at the Druids Glen Golf Club, which reopened in May last year after an estimated €10 million investment in upgrades led by course designer Peter McEvoy OBE. Marcus Doyle, Director of Golf at Druids Glen Hotel and Golf Resort, stated: "Hosting this PGA Pro-Am for a second year running is a core element to our ambition to incorporate major events throughout the year at Druids Glen."

Simon Thornton, winner of the 2023 Pro-Am, praised the golf course, saying: "It was my first time playing Druids Glen, so I didn't know what the changes were, it was all new to me. All I can say is wow, what a golf course, absolutely stunning... I think it's one of, if not the best, in parkland golf courses in Ireland, it's absolutely fantastic."

The tournament will feature teams of three, with one professional per team. It will consist of two shotgun starts: the first at 9am with 18 teams, followed by lunch, and the second at 2pm with 22 teams, followed by an evening meal. The price for a team of three is €800.

Dermot Gaskin, Director of Irish Life Financial Services, expressed Irish Life's delight in continuing their support, stating: "Irish Life is delighted to continue our support of the Down Syndrome Centre and the PGA for the 7th year. The Down Syndrome Centre is close to the hearts of many of our colleagues..." To apply for the tournament, interested parties can email golf.reservations@druidsglenresort.com or call 01-2870812.
