Former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman has soft-launched turns, lights, sports Lights Out Sports, a free ad-supported sports streaming service featuring content from various sports programmers. The service offers a variety of sports-only content, including live games, highlights, and interviews with top athletes from partners such as Glory Kickboxing, World Poker Tour, Swerve Combat, Chess.com, Streetbeefs, Outdoor America, SpeedVision, Cineverse, and A7FL.

Merriman's own mixed-martial arts outfit, Lights Out Xtreme Fighting, will also be featured on the platform. More sports content partners are expected to join the service in the future. Lights Out Sports will be available on Roku, Apple, IOS, and Android connected TV platforms, with more to come.

On May 18th, Lights Out Xtreme Fight's Lights Out 16 will stream on the service, featuring 19 fights scheduled to appear on a five-hour show. Merriman plans to add sports-themed movies and original series to Lights Out Sports in the future. The company is also developing an algorithm to make real-time data about matches available to viewers, using a system that generates data from five cameras and sensors in combatants' gloves.

Merriman, whose nickname as a player was "Lights Out," has worked in the media business since retiring from football, including on-air roles with several networks and behind-the-scenes work with the WWE's network. He has gathered experience from working at places like the NFL Network, Fox Sports, ESPN, and WWE, which he believes will help him build out Lights Out Sports. "This is a big undertaking. You've got to make sure you've got all your ducks in a row and everybody's on the same page," Merriman said.

The former linebacker expressed enthusiasm for the interest and excitement around Lights Out Sports from the content partners. "The cool thing is that interest level and the excitement around this coming from all of the content partners... It was really inspiring to me because they got it," Merriman noted. Regarding the real-time data feature in development, he added, "The object is to have that data instantly available and we're very close to doing it."
