Philippines Weather Forecast: Hot and Humid in Luzon, Rain in Southern Mindanao

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released the weather forecast for the Philippines on April 21, 2024. According to PAGASA, Luzon will experience hot and humid conditions due to the ridge of a high-pressure area extending over the eastern section of Northern Luzon. The Visayas region is expected to have fair weather.

However, Southern Mindanao will experience rain and thunderstorms due to the trough of a low-pressure area (LPA) located 555 km southeast of General Santos City. The LPA has a slim chance of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next few days, but its trough will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Caraga and Davao regions.

Why this matters: The weather conditions in the Philippines can have significant impacts on the daily lives of its citizens, as well as on various sectors such as agriculture, transportation, and tourism. Staying informed about the latest weather forecasts is essential for ensuring public safety and preparedness.

PAGASA has advised people living near mountain slopes and low-lying areas to be alert for possible flash floods due to the light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. "The public is advised to limit time spent outdoors, particularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and to drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration, as too much exposure to the sun could lead to heat-related illnesses," PAGASA stated.

Meanwhile, a ridge of high-pressure area will be experienced over the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, while the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Several areas in Luzon and the Visayas are also expected to experience high heat index ranging from 42°C to 44°C.

PAGASA continues to monitor the weather conditions across the country and provide timely updates and advisories to the public. The weather agency has also requested feedback from the public through a short survey to help improve their weather products and services.
