Four Arrested in Saskatchewan Drug Bust Seizing Meth, Fentanyl, Weapons

The Punnichy RCMP seized a significant quantity of drugs, weapons, and cash and arrested four individuals on drug trafficking and weapon charges in George Gordon First Nation and Punnichy, Saskatchewan, on April 20-21, 2024. The arrests and seizures were the result of an investigation that began with a report of potentially armed individuals in a vehicle on the George Gordon First Nation.

On April 19, Punnichy RCMP received information about armed suspects travelling in a vehicle on George Gordon First Nation. Officers located the vehicle and seized 14 grams of methamphetamine, 4 grams of fentanyl, a machete, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and cash. They arrested Joshua Fayant, 30, and Tylena Favel, 20, who face multiple charges.

The investigation led the RCMP's Critical Incident Response Team to execute a search warrant at a residence in Punnichy the following day. There, police seized a larger quantity of drugs, including 114 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of fentanyl, and over 100 grams of cannabis. They also found more weapons, such as a crossbow, a throwing star, and numerous knives, along with additional drug trafficking paraphernalia and cash.

Two more individuals, Quentin Desjarlais, 37, and Shaylon Mooswa, 24, were arrested at the Punnichy residence. The four accused face a combined 25 charges related to drug trafficking and weapons offenses. They made their first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on April 22.

Why this matters: The arrests and seizures underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat the trafficking of dangerous drugs like methamphetamine and fentanyl in Saskatchewan communities. The presence of weapons alongside the drugs highlights the potential for violence associated with the illicit drug trade.

Punnichy RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Colin Klancher stated, "This seizure and the associated charges are significant, as they have a direct impact on the safety of our communities. These are the people responsible for bringing illicit and dangerous drugs into our neighborhoods." The investigation and coordinated response from the Punnichy RCMP and Critical Incident Response Team have taken a substantial quantity of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other drugs off the streets, along with the arrests of four individuals alleged to be involved in trafficking them while armed with weapons.
