Chinese Bridge Spring Camp Brings Together Youth from SCO Countries

The 2024 "Chinese Bridge" Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) National Youth Student Spring Camp opened in Xinjiang, China on April 15. The camp has attracted nearly 500 students from eight SCO countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, Pakistan, and Iran.

During the camp, students will visit four universities in Xinjiang and participate in social activities to experience traditional Chinese culture such as tea art and calligraphy. The event featured various cultural performances at the opening ceremony, including Tai chi, sabreplay, and Shaolin boxing, showcasing the rich cultural exchange between the participating countries.

Aili, a 15-year-old girl from Kazakhstan, expressed her keen interest to learn more about Chinese culture and make Chinese friends. Ru Yi, a student from India, was fascinated by Chinese martial arts and plans to pursue a master's degree in China after graduating.

The camp is hosted by the Chinese and Foreign Language Exchange and Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Education and the Department of Education of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It aims to provide a platform for young people from SCO countries to learn Chinese language and appreciate Chinese culture.

"The Chinese Bridge Spring Camp is an important platform for promoting people-to-people exchanges and enhancing friendship among SCO countries," said Li Tao, an official from the Ministry of Education. "We hope that through this event, young students can gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture and establish long-lasting friendships."

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization, founded in 2001, is a Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance consisting of eight member states. The SCO has been focusing on strengthening cooperation in various fields, including education, culture, and youth exchanges.

The 2024 Chinese Bridge Spring Camp will run until April 25. Participants will have the opportunity to attend Chinese language classes, visit local attractions, and engage in cultural activities.
