The Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force has made a significant drug bust , seizing illegal drugs worth more than EC$37 million (US$13.7 million) in two separate operations. The seizures included 696.82 kilograms (1,533 pounds) of cocaine and 16,798 grams (37 pounds) of cannabis.

The first operation occurred on April 3, 2024, when the Dominica Coast Guard pursued a vessel named "La-mere Fatal" that was beached at Cabana Marigot. The occupants fled the scene, leaving behind 696.82 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of EC$18,616,870.25 (US$6.9 million). Four men were arrested in connection with this seizure.

In the second operation on April 12, 2024, police discovered and seized 696.36 kilograms of cocaine and 16,798 grams of cannabis on a farm holding in the Castle Bruce area. Why this matters: The substantial drug seizures and arrests demonstrate the Dominica Police Force's commitment to combating drug trafficking and preventing the country from being used as a transit point for illegal drugs. The successful operations deal a significant blow to drug trafficking networks and highlight the ongoing efforts to maintain security in the Caribbean region.

Acting Police Chief Davidson Valerie praised the hard work, effort, and commitment of the officers involved in the operations. "The seizure signifies the force's determination to prevent drug traffickers from using Dominica for their illegal trade," Valerie stated. He emphasized that the police will intensify their efforts to pursue and bring the traffickers to justice, sending a strong message to those involved in the drug trade.
