Benue Volunteer Guards Arrest Three Suspects for Stealing Diesel from Construction Company

The Benue State Community Volunteer Guards (BSCVG) have apprehended three suspects for allegedly stealing diesel from the TRIACTA Construction Company in Makurdi, Benue State. The suspects were caught on Sunday night near the residence of the state governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, while attempting to transport the stolen diesel in jerrycans to a waiting vehicle.

According to the BSCVG commander, Captain Ayuma Ajovbi (rtd), the suspects had siphoned diesel from heavy-duty trucks into jerrycans. One of the suspects, Mohammed Adamu, a black market dealer, allegedly tried to bribe the operatives with N70,000. Captain Ajovbi described the act as sabotage and stated that the arrest of the suspects was a reflection of the efforts of the well-trained BSCVG operatives.

The chief security officer of TRIACTA Construction Company, Benjamin Atsaga, revealed that the company had experienced similar incidents due to the connivance of staff , some of whom were later dismissed. Two of the suspects, Mohammed Adamu and Peter Zaki, claimed they were invited by some staff members of the company before their arrest.

The BSCVG intelligence officer, Emmanuel Ogbu, stated that efforts were underway to apprehend four additional suspects involved in the illegal activity. The TRIACTA project manager, Engineer Nabil Nasser, expressed frustration over the continuous theft of diesel from the company by Mohammed Adamu, who had been previously arrested and released by the police.

The BSCVG commander assured the public that after the investigation is concluded, the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate authority for prosecution. The state government has emphasized its stance against such illicit activities and the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a statement, the chief security officer of TRIACTA Construction Company, Benjamin Atsaga, said, "The company has been subjected to such acts due to the collusion of employees, some of whom were later fired." He further noted that this was not the first time the company had experienced diesel theft, with a previous incident in October 2023 involving a staff member who was subsequently dismissed.
