Pakistan Aeronautical Complex Signs Deal to Supply Trainer Aircraft to Zimbabwe

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) in Kamra has signed a multi-million dollar deal to supply 12 Super Mushshak trainer aircraft to Zimbabwe. The agreement was finalized on April 30, 2024, following Zimbabwe's participation in a security and defense exhibition hosted by Islamabad in November 2022.

The Super Mushshak is a lightweight, robust, two/three-seat, single-engine aircraft with fixed, non-retractable, tricycle landing gear. It was developed by PAC to meet US FAR 23 certification standards. With this procurement, Zimbabwe joins other African countries like Nigeria that have already acquired the Super Mushshak for their training needs.

The Zimbabwe Air Force has been seeking to replace its aging and worn-out fleet of aircraft. Faced with Western-imposed sanctions, the country has turned to nations like Pakistan and China for new trainer and combat aircraft. In addition to the aircraft deal, Zimbabwe has also requested technical assistance from the Nigerian Air Force, known for its advanced aircraft and expertise, in areas such as research, development, and maintenance of aircraft.

Why this matters: This deal signifies the growing defense cooperation between Pakistan and African nations. It also highlights how countries facing international sanctions are finding alternative sources for their military equipment and training needs.

The Super Mushshak deal is expected to enhance the training capabilities of the Zimbabwe Air Force. PAC officials expressed confidence that the aircraft will meet Zimbabwe's requirements and further strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. The delivery schedule and other specifics of the agreement have not been disclosed at this time.
