Planar Displays Achieve Rigorous IoT Cybersecurity Certification

Planar, a leading display technology company, has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining the ETSI EN 303 645 certification for its UltraRes W Series and Simplicity M Series large format LCD displays. This certification, awarded by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), recognizes the displays' compliance with rigorous cybersecurity standards for Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Why this matters: The increasing use of IoT devices has created a vast attack surface for cyber threats, and ensuring the security of these devices is crucial to preventing large-scale attacks. By achieving this certification, Planar sets a new standard for IoT device security, which can have a ripple effect in promoting more secure technologies across various industries.

The Planar UltraRes W Series and Simplicity M Series are the first commercial display offerings to achieve ETSI EN 303 645 certification. The ETSI EN 303 645 standard is the first globally applicable standard for consumer IoT, designed to prevent large-scale attacks against smart devices. The certification requires the implementation of 33 required security features to mitigate potential IoT cybersecurity risks.

"With today's rising use of IoT devices, cyber attacks can occur through display technology in a handful of ways," said Dez Moleski, Director of Product Security at Planar. "We're proud to be a leader in developing more secure display technologies that offer customers peace of mind, in addition to reliability and superior visual performance."

The 105-inch Planar UltraRes W Series features a 21:9 aspect ratio, 5K resolution, and local dimming, making it ideal for unified communications and video collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams. The Planar Simplicity M Series displays are available in sizes ranging from 43-86 inches, offering 4K resolution, multi-point simultaneous touch, and support for landscape or portrait orientation. Both product lines are ENERGY STAR certified, ensuring energy efficiency and cost savings.

This certification demonstrates Planar's commitment to developing secure display technologies that protect customers from cybersecurity risks. The ETSI EN 303 645 certification sets a new standard for IoT device security, and Planar's achievement paves the way for the development of more secure display solutions in the industry.
