Craveworthy Brands Acquires Hot Chicken Takeover and Taim Mediterranean Kitchen

Craveworthy Brands, a fast-casual restaurant company, has acquired Untamed Brands, the parent company of Hot Chicken Takeover and Taim Mediterranean Kitchen. The acquisition, announced earlier this month, brings two beloved concepts into Craveworthy's diverse portfolio of restaurant brands.

Why this matters: This acquisition marks a significant shift in the fast-casual restaurant industry, as Craveworthy Brands expands its portfolio and increases its market share. The deal could also have implications for the local economies of central Ohio and New York City, where the acquired brands have a strong presence.

Hot Chicken Takeover, a central Ohio chain with a cult-like following, will undergo a revamp of its seven locations with refreshed branding in the coming future. The locations will also serve as the catalyst for the creation of a new hot chicken concept in partnership with Craveworthy's Budlong, a Chicago-based hot chicken concept.

Taim Mediterranean Kitchen, a New York City-based concept founded by Food Network Chef Einat Admony, is also part of the acquisition. Craveworthy Brands, owned by former Jimmy John's CEO Gregg Majewski, adds Taim and Hot Chicken Takeover to its existing portfolio that includes BD's Mongolian Grill, Dirty Dough, Flat Top Grill, and Genghis Grill, among others.

Gregg Majewski, founder of Craveworthy, expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, "Taim and HCT are beloved concepts with long histories of serving high-quality cuisine and providing excellent service. They bring a fresh perspective and complement our existing portfolio extremely well, which allows us to cater to diverse consumer preferences and truly tap into new markets."

Phil Petrilli, CEO of Untamed, echoed Majewski's sentiments, saying, "Craveworthy has a wealth of experience in nurturing emerging restaurant brands and implementing scalable strategies. Combining our strengths and shared commitment to culinary innovation, hospitality and elevating guest experiences, this will be an exciting, new chapter for Taim and HCT."

Hot Chicken Takeover was founded in 2015 and has since expanded to seven locations throughout central Ohio. Untamed Brands took ownership of the chain in late 2021. The acquisition by Craveworthy comes on the heels of reports that Bob Evans, another central Ohio-based chain, is reportedly on the market after being purchased by Golden Gate Capital for $565 million in 2017.

The acquisition of Hot Chicken Takeover and Taim Mediterranean Kitchen by Craveworthy Brands marks a significant development in the fast-casual restaurant industry. With plans to revamp Hot Chicken Takeover's central Ohio locations and create a new hot chicken concept with Budlong, Craveworthy is poised to make a major impact on the culinary landscape of the region and beyond.
