The victim, identified as Josefina Romo of Oxnard, was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk when she was hit by a 2002 Ford F-150 pickup truck traveling southbound on Oxnard Boulevard. Romo was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ventura County Fire Department.

The incident caused significant traffic problems in the area, closing southbound Rose at Oxnard Boulevard and southbound Oxnard Boulevard at Statham, as well as impacting eastbound Channel Islands Boulevard. The closures were lifted about five hours later.
