Vietnam Airlines Boost Flights for Upcoming Five-Day Holiday Period

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has requested that airlines increase flights on domestic routes, particularly from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City and other localities, during the upcoming five-day holidays in Vietnam from April 26 to May 3, 2024. This request comes in response to high booking rates on certain routes and a shortage of aircraft resulting from airline restructuring and engine maintenance.

According to the CAAV, booking rates have reached as high as 99.51% on the Hanoi-Quang Binh route and 83% on the Ho Chi Minh City-Tuy Hoa route for April 27. Other high-demand routes include Hanoi-Phu Quoc, Hanoi-Hue, and Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc. To meet this surge in demand, Vietnamese airlines are expected to provide around 900,000 seats on domestic routes during the holiday period.

The CAAV held a meeting with airlines to discuss increasing flights and seats, as well as offering flexible airfares. Airlines have been granted adjusted slots at airports across the country to help optimize flight schedules and extend the operating time of aircraft fleets, especially during evening and nighttime hours.

Why this matters: The five-day holiday period, which includes National Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day (May 1), is a popular time for domestic travel in Vietnam. The increased flight capacity will help meet the high demand for air travel and support the country's tourism industry during this period.

Vietnamese airlines are expected to provide 657,000 seats and 3,400 flights on routes from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to other localities nationwide, representing a 4.2% increase in the number of seats and a 5.5% increase in the number of flights compared to the same period in 2023. The CAAV has also requested that airlines increase flights on routes between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, especially on April 27-28 and May 1-3, to address the aircraft shortage and meet travel demand.
